Student Internships
The Student Internship Program involves recruiting, mentoring, supervising, and evaluating student interns from the University of Alaska and other institutions of higher learning. Depending upon the availability of projects and the capabilities of individual interns, these students may engage in any activity normally conducted by ACPP. For example, interns may contribute content to the website or the newsletter, may research and write about Alaska public policy issues, and may play a significant role in program evaluation. Students who have their own policy ideas are invited to discuss them with Center Associates for possible development as a Center project.
Interns are closely mentored by one or more Center Associates, and intern projects are reviewed by at least one specialist in the topic area. Most projects completed by student interns will be treated in the same way as projects created by Center Associates. In other words, summaries will be released as media advisories, and will be included in the newsletter. In addition, a complete copy of the document will be included among the resources on the ACPP website. Interns may receive a stipend if funds can be identified. Finally, arrangements can be made with the University of Alaska or other institutions of higher learning, to award course credit to students for their internship contributions .
Students who may have an interest in being an intern at the Alaska Center for Public Policy should contact Dr. Weiss at 907-240-4141, or by email at: inquiry at acpp dot info.
