Talking Taxes

3 September 2006

Oil taxes. Gas taxes. Property taxes. Sales Taxes. Inheritance taxes. And that is just the beginning. Tax policies can be enormously complex, and public discussion about them seems to be decidedly partisan, unenlightening, and often occurs in a relatively fact-free environment. So, what to do?

Among your first resource stops I would recommend the excellent group blog, Talking Taxes, “devoted to discussion of important issues in federal, state and local tax reform, with an emphasis on fair and adequate taxation.” To jump to issues of immediate concern to Alaskans, find the search bar at the top of the page and plug in terms such as “oil” or “BP.”

Talking Taxes is a joint effort by two organizations I rely heavily upon for accurate, critical tax and fiscal policy analysis: The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, and Citizens for Tax Justice.
