Alaska Retirement Systems Workshop
26 September 2005You know the Legislature did “something†to PERS and TRS, but do you know what?
Senate Bill 141 changed the retirement options for any public employee hired after July 1, 2006. This includes all teachers, municipal employees (including firefighters and police officers) and state employees. Alaska and the municipalities will no longer offer a “defined benefit†retirement plan. It will change to a “defined contribution†plan.
- Do you know what that means?
- How will it affect the current PERS/TRS plan if new employees do not contribute to it?
- Will we still be able to recruit new teachers, firefighters and police officers?
The Alaska Retired Educators Association (Ak-REA) is hosting a free workshop to discuss SB 141 and its impact on all of us.
